Allen was born on December 7, 1960, in Milledgeville, Georgia. He attended the Wilkinson County public schools and graduated from Wilkinson County High School in 1978. After graduating from high school, he became the first member of his family to enter college. He graduated from Georgia College in 1982 and from Mercer Law School with honors in 1985. While in Mercer, Allen served on the Mercer Law Review. After graduating from law school, he clerked with the judges of the South Georgia Judicial Circuit for one year before moving to Atlanta.
In Atlanta, Allen worked for an insurance defense firm defending medical and dental malpractice cases as well as auto, trucking and other tort injury cases. During his years as a defense attorney he successfully tried many cases and gained invaluable experience and knowledge. In 1990, he joined the firm of Gill, Peterson & Harris which a few years later became Peterson & Harris. He has taught other lawyers in seminars on advanced trial practice techniques. Allen is a member of many professional organizations including the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, The Georgia Trial Lawyers Association, The Lawyers’ Club of Atlanta, The Old War Horse Lawyers’ Club and The Atlanta Bar Association
Allen is an active member of St. James United Methodist Church. He, his wife Gala and their two children reside in Atlanta.
